ASUS NX90 is a very special notebook. It’s not so wide spread so finding battery for this device could be quite a problem.
One of the options is replacing the battery cells. That’s something almost everyone can do! If you can handle a screwdriver and a solder iron – read on!
So, first of all, let’s look at the original ASUS NX90 battery. It’s 5600 mAh, made in Korea, model is A32-NX90. If you’re lucky and managed to get the new one – just read a bit more just to know how to replace it. But if you just like many others cannot find it in your area – try searching for A32-UL20 model – it has the same power cells that can be used in your old ASUS battery.
To do it carefully remove the four rubber pads at the bottom corners – the bolts are under. Unscrew them and put aside. Then gently pull the cover towards the vent hole a bit and remove it. Easy!
The battery is held by three bolts, so unscrew them and pull out the battery. If you have a new one – just replace it, clean the inside from dust (if any) and put the cover back.
If not – let’s have some fun!
You’ll have to use your destructive force to dismantle the battery case. It’s not as easy as it seems, so try not to injure yourself with the tools that you use. We take no responsibility, btw) And take care of the case, we need it!
That’s what you’ll find inside the old battery.
A beautyful blue six-pack!
As you can see, the cells for ASUS NX90 are made by Samsung.
Compare the size of cells with your brand new A32-UL20 battery – and dismantle the new one! By now you should already have some experiense, but be carefull not to harm new cells – you gonna throw away the case so don’t care of it.
As you can see the connectors are not the same, so you’ll have to do some solder iron work. It’s not so hard, just do your best – remove the connector from the new cells and replace it with the old one.
Then put the new cells gently in the old case and fix it with a tape. You’ll get something like this:
Put it inside your ASUS NX90 Notebook and plug in the power – if everything was done right you’ll see the orange light – the battery is charging.
Congratulations, you can really be proud of yourself! Now you have the new battery and you’ve done it completely by yourself!
What else can be done with ASUS NX90?
It’s a very good idea to replace HDs with SSDs – they are way faster, you’ll immediately see the difference in productivity. Or you can replace just the system drive and keep the second for data or backups or whatever.
To replace just unscrew and remove both HDs by pulling them a bit horizontally from their connectors.
There is one more common problem for some ASUS Notebooks – the power socket start to loose contact with motherboard. The right decision in this situation is to take your asus to an authorised service to replace the power socket. But of cause it’s a challenge to repair it by yourself. In some cases a little solder work will do.
So if you wish you can go on!
The next step is to unscrew the 100500 bolts that you’ll find in the metal frame. Inspect each one of them after unscrewing, some can have different length.
Then detach wires that you see and remove the frame – just pull it.
Blueray drive. That’s cool but how often do we use it?
Inspect the power socket and if you see some defects – solder it a bit.
We strongly advise you from taking off the motherboard – it would be extremely hard to connect back all the wires that are hiding under it and you can hurt them! But if you still decide to take it off – don’t forget to replace the BIOS battery – it’s 2032.
Ok, have fun, be patient and carefull and you’ll get your nice shining polished ASUS NX90 back to life!
